Elizabeth Pérez

Elizabeth Pérez is a sports anchor for CNN en Español and co-anchor of "Al Galope". Pérez presents periodic news from Monday to Friday with the latest and most relevant news of the world of sports during the morning and evening shows. She also takes part in the sports events for CNN International’s "World Sports", the sister network of CNN en Español, viewed worldwide.

Pérez joined CNN en Español in March of 2011 after working as a sports anchor and being the reporter and host of the fashion and beauty segment for the Telemundo newscast in Miami, where she was also a reporter for the extreme sports show, Ritmo Deportivo.

Since joining CNN, Elizabeth Perez has covered a variety of sporting events: the 2012 Olympic Games in London, the 2011 Pan-American Guadalajara games from Mexico, and more recently the Churchill Downs 139th edition of the famous Kentucky Derby, the first and most important of the three races that make up the U.S. Triple Crown. She has also presented special shows: "Vive el Golf", "Herencia Hispana", the playoffs, "Resumen Navideño Deportivo", and "Tras el Oro", among others.

Throughout her journalistic career she has covered major sporting events like NASCAR in Indianapolis, Indy300 at Homestead Speedway, Red Bull SoapBox Race in St. Louis, Air and Sea Show in Ft. Lauderdale and Smash Super Bowl Party for the NFL. She has Interviewed some of the most widely recognized personalities in sports, music and international art like: Keegan Bradely, Emerson Fitipaldi, Miguel Cabrera, Oscar de la Hoya, Udonis Haslem, Shaquille O’Neal, Juan Pablo Montoya, Carl Lewis, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Oscar de la Renta, Shakira, Miguel Bose, Romero Britto, Jose Feliciano, John Leguizamo, David Bisbal, Daddy Yankee, Chayanne, Juanes, America Ferrera, Enrique Iglesias and Rosario Dawson, among others.

In 2008, Perez received the highest award from the National Academy of Arts and Science of Television (NATAS) in the U.S., as well as the Emmy Award for the Most Talented for Broadcast News for her work in the Telemundo newscast.

Perez began her career in mass communication as an anchor for the entertainment segment of the weekend newscast of Telemundo International, in which it helped her reach thousands of homes in Latin America and part of Europe. She has also conducted specials like Calle 8 for NBC-Telemundo, Rumbo a Premios Juventud for Univision and the Billboard Awards for Latin Music.

Born in Cuba and raised in Venezuela, Pérez holds a Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering from Universidad Bicentenaria de Aragua and earned a Master’s in Journalism at Florida International University. She has been an active volunteer with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Miami since 2007. She speaks Spanish and English, and is currently studying Italian.
