Carmen Aristegui

Carmen Aristegui is the anchor of Aristegui, CNN en Español's new talk show featuring frank, in-depth conversations with Mexican leaders over topics like politics, economy, culture and the entertainment world of Mexico and Latin America. The show is also aired on CNN Latino, a new programming block custom made for the U.S. Hispanic market.

Aristegui joined CNN en Español in 2005 after more than 15 years of experience as an anchor, commentator and reporter in diverse radio and television shows in Mexico. On the radio side, she has been associated with such top ranked shows like MVS’s “Para Empezar”, W Radio’s “Hoy por Hoy”, and Grupo Imagen’s “Imagen Informativa.” Aristegui’s trajectory includes the collaboration of various shows: MVS’s “En Blanco y Negro,” Televisa’s “Circulo Rojo,” and channel eleven’s “Primer Plano.” In addition, Aristegui was the co-anchor of the show “Noticias Canal 52: Aristegui-Solorzano.”

In Mexico, Aristegui is widely recognized as an expert on national politics. She is a regular speaker at academic forums and political debates. In 2008, she was invited to participate as a judge of “Premios Rey de España”. In addition, for over five years Aristegui hosted the Federal Electoral Institute's special political programming. In 1997, she also acted as an advisor to a civic group involved in the first election for the head of government in the Mexican capital.

Aristegui has received multiple honors throughout her professional career, such as the National Award of Journalism in Mexico in 2009. In 2008, Carmen was honored with the Maria Moors Cabot Award of Columbia University, the oldest and most prestigious award for journalism in Latin America given in the U.S. She was also recognized with the Spanish Award “Ondas”, and as part of the CNN en Español journalistic team, Carmen received for the second consecutive time the National Award for Journalism that is given by the Club of Journalists in Mexico to the channel. She also received the National Award of Journalism in 2004 for “Analysis ad Debate,” and the National Award of Journalism in the Chronicle category in 2001, given by the Ministry of the Interior. Also, Aristegui received two awards from the “Journalists Club” in 2002 and 2004, and the Public Image Award for being the best anchor at an international level in 2003. Aristegui was named "2004 Woman of the Year" by Mont Blanc, and was selected to carry the Olympic Torch through Mexico as part of its global journey to Athens that same year.

Born in Mexico City, Aristegui graduated from Mexico's Universidad Autónoma with a degree in communication sciences.
