Gabriela Frías is anchor of Portafolio Global, CNN en Español’s afternoon business, innovation and entrepreneurship show. For more than 13 years, Frias has presented financial news from Latin America and the world for CNN, interviewing world leaders, reporting on the global financial crisis, and travel to high profile events such as the G-20 in Mexico and the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. She is recognized as a leader in business journalism in Latin America.

Frias began on CNN in 2000 as a producer and collaborator of the business program of CNN in Spanish nightly show, but moved quickly to anchor her own personal finance program En Efectivo which launched in 2001 and had a period of ten years. In 2010, she also moderated Mexico 2020, a major CNN en Español/ CNNMexico.com televised initiative aiming to look at the future of this country from various angles, including innovation, safety and sports.

In late 2010, Frias took her experience in business journalism to CNN en Español’s Primetime, joining Xavier Serbia for the launch of CNN Dinero, a program designed to provide viewers with the fast paced world of business in a simple, smart and knowledgeable way.

Among the many personalities she has interviewed are: current Managing Director for International Monetary Fund, Christine Lagarde as well as former Managing Director Dominique Strauss-Kahn during the financial crisis, and an exclusive interview with Nobel Peace Prize winner, Muhammad Yunnus.

Frias is devoted to business in Latin America and contributes frequently to moderate and participate in economic and education forums across the region, also writes for CNN International Business coverage in Latin America, including segments on World Business Today and Global Change.

Frias’s contributions to CNN are not limited to business only. She anchored the coverage of the terrorist attacks of September 11 in the United States and the war in Iraq. She also traveled to Arizona to report on immigration reform.

Previously, Frias worked as a business reporter for Reforma, one of the largest newspapers in Mexico, since 1997. In 1998, Frias twice occupied by co-anchor and reporter from Business Mexico, a joint venture between Reform and CNN in Español.

Frias graduated with honors from Carlos Septíen School of Journalism in Mexico City. She speaks English, Spanish and French.
