Un error en la torre de control del aeropuerto de Austin, Texas, hizo que dos aviones estuvieran a menos de 30 metros de chocar, lo que puso en riesgo la vida de 128 personas que había en las aeronaves. La torre autorizó la llegada del Boeing 767 de FedEx y la salida del Boeing 737 de Southwest Airlines por la misma pista, cuando la tripulación de FedEx se dio cuenta de que estaba sobrevolando el avión de Southwest.
