Xavier Serbia is host of CNN Dinero, CNN en Español’s program that delivers world business news in a simple, intelligent and well informed manner.
Serbia is also the author of the bestselling book “La Riqueza en Cuatro Pisos” and his most recent “Pregúntale a Xavier” (April 2011). Since 2005, he has served as finance editor for Siempre Mujer magazine, and writes about financial issues for Ser Padres magazine. He is also a columnist for the Colombian daily newspaper, La República.
Since joining CNN en Español in 2011, Serbia has covered the most important business and financial news of the region, and has interviewed business leaders such as: Woods Staton, Golden Arches CEO; Reed Hastings,president of Netflix; Oswaldo Cisneros, president of Grupo Cisneros’s Digitel of Venezuela; Fabio Villegas Ramírez, Avianca CEO; and José Francisco Arata, president and executive director of Pacific Rubiales Energy, among others. In addition, he has interviewed the ex-governor of Puerto Rico, Luis Fortuño; the president of the Central Bank of Peru, Julio Velarde; ex-president of the Central Bank of Argentina, Martín Redrado; president of the Central Bank of Venezuela, Nelson Merentes; Chilean finance minister, Felipe Larraín; Francisco Sánchez, U.S. subsecretary of Finance; Alberto Alemán Zubieta, administrator of the Panama Canal Authority; Sri Mulyani, general director of the World Bank; Domingo Cavallo, ex minister of Economy for Argentina; and Mauricio Cárdenas, Treasury Minister of Colombia, among others.
Before joining CNN en Español, Serbia was a regular contributor in economy and finance segments for the TV show, “Maria Elvira Live”, in a segment called “Explícame Xavier”. He has also worked as a financial analyst and economist for Telemundo 47 on NBC-Telemundo in New York, NY1 Noticias. Serbia has been interviewed on financial issues by various media networks, including Bloomberg Radio, SBS Communications and CNN en Español. He was responsible for a number of financial segments for the show Sábado Gigante on Univision, and was a presenter and writer on the series “El Camino al Triunfo”, produced by NBC-Telemundo., Serbia was a regular columnist for Yahoo Finance en Español and newspapers El Nuevo Día in Puerto Rico, and Diario La Prensa in New York.
Furthermore, Serbia is a professor and lecturer teaching a course in personal finance, provided by the International Center for Journalists, to Hispanic journalists in the United States and lectures at universities, private companies and institutions in Puerto Rico, United States and Latin America.
Born in Puerto Rico, Xavier Serbia graduated with a master’s degree in economics from Trinity College in Connecticut and earned an MBA with a concentration in finance from Keller Graduate School of Management. He speaks English and Spanish.
